Review: Club Caddy

The Club Caddy

The Club Caddy

I have to admit that I greeted the Club Caddy with more than a bit of skepticism.  Don’t get me wrong – my friends will attest that I love to try new gadgets.  We get our fair share of them here at Addicted2Golf to review and sometimes just to provide feedback.   But, when I pulled the Club Caddy out of the box, my first impression was it looked like a gigantic clothes pin.  I thought, “this was the winner of the Golf Channel’s Fore Inventors Only show”?  Well, the companies motto is “Play Smarter, Not Harder” and it really applies in this case as I found out after taking the Club Caddy out for several rounds of golf.

Pros

Clipped to my golf bag

Spotted in the "wild", clipped to my golf bag

The package included a clip that acts as a holder for the Club Caddy when its not in use.  It was initially difficult to fasten the holder to my bag due to the amount of padding around its 14-way top, but once in use the holder worked quite well.  It allowed the Club Caddy to swivel around to stay out of the way during club selection and it stayed attached to my bag during the entire round.

So, how does the Club Caddy work?  This product is almost elegant in the simplicity of it’s design.  Just clip the Club Caddy above the hosel and lay your club with a square face on the ground.  Once attached, it acts like a kick stand and keeps the club standing upright.  Players with bad backs don’t need to bend over to retrieve their extra clubs as they walk off the green.  Yes, “Mr. Suction Cup on the end of your putter guy” – this product was made in heaven for you.

My favorite wedge standing tall with the Club Caddy

During early morning rounds, grips stay clean and dry.   And if you tend to leave clubs laying around for the trailing group to find, then pick one of these up because its much harder for you or your partners to ignore your shiny $110 wedge standing alongside the green as you stroll of to the next hole.

Are you a devotee of Pelz?  Did you rush out to buy Mickelson’s latest short game DVD?  Is half your bag wedges?  The Club Caddy will keep two clubs upright if you lean them against each other.  I tested that out repeatedly on holes where I gamed both my 56 and 60 degree wedges around the green and it worked quite well as long as I was on a relatively flat surface.

Cons

Are you done three putting yet? Put us back in the bag.

Are you done three putting yet? Put us back in the bag.

I really can’t think of anything negative to say about the Club Caddy other than noting that I caught some grief from my regular foresome for using it.  One member asked with a grin if I was joining the Senior PGA Tour.  Another, who towards the end of the day got tired of our usual smack talk, was rather industrious in suggesting that I should clip the Club Caddy to a part of my anatomy rather than my club.  I will spare you from the rest, but you get the idea…

Finally, in our research on this product it is important to note that we became aware of feedback on other sites from customers complaining about the durability of the Club Caddy.  We played several rounds of golf with our sample and performed some additional stress testing equivalent to many more rounds on the product and it did not break.

Final Word

We think the Club Caddy is a fine product that performs exactly as advertised.  It retails for 14.99 + Shipping online.  It is also available for sale at most major golf retail outlets.

I love this product, but lost it :( and haven’t gotten around to buying a new one.

I felt a little self-conscious carrying it around/using it at first too…sort of like ‘Um yeah I’m the sucker who bought this thing.’.

Good/fun review. I’m going to pick one up again next time I’m at GS.

    Nice review, Blaine!

I watched the “Fore Inventors Only” show and thought this Club Caddy was a cute idea. I love playing early am when the grass it wet and I often bring 2 wedges up when I am near the green. Then I have to have a towel to lay the extra club on (& maybe my putter) so the grips do not get wet.

But when it comes to me deciding to pay $15 for something like that, well, I haven’t ponyed up the dough yet!
