I got the opportunity this past week to try a sleeve of the new Nike ONE Vapor Speed golf balls.
Manufacturer Specs
The Vapor Speed is a solid core, three piece ball with a seamless ionomer cover. It’s compression rating is 61 and its designed for the skilled amateur player with a swing speed between 85 and 100 mph. According to Nike, the combination of the new optimized aerodynamics of the 336 dimple cover and the inner “power transfer” layer results in greater velocity, distance and control with clubs through-out the bag.
Results
I ordinarily game the Titleist NXT Tour and the Nike ONE Vapor Speed is a very similar product. Both deliver mid levels of spin around the green. Durability was good. I had no issues with cut or scuffed covers on full wedge shots.
Where the Vapor Speed wins is in distance. The NXT Tour plays firmer but I hit this Nike ball about 10-15 yards further. In fact, all of my longest drives of the year thus far have been testing the Nike One Vapor Speed! It flies like a distance ball with low spin and lots of roll but it feels soft coming off the face. The Vapor Speed also has a nice boring trajectory that doesn’t get caught up in the wind. I’m not thrilled about the lack of a true alignment aid graphic on the ball but that is a minor complaint.
Bottom Line
If your swing speed is between 85 to 100 mph and you have been looking to try something new that doesn’t break the bank then don’t hesitate to demo this ball. The Nike One Vapor Speeds are widely available and retail for $29.99 per dozen.

Hi Jim. Good to hear it wasn’t just me. I’ve decided to adopt the Vapor Speed as my “go-to” ball for the rest of the Summer. Most retailers have started to put them on sale for $25 a dozen, which in my opinion is an absolute steal.

After playing this weekend, I’m convinced its time for me to switch balls to something with more spin around the green. I’ve been playing the BS E6+ and occasionally the Top Flite Gamer (Got a bunch of the TF’s during a BIG sale… now I know why) I couldn’t hold a green with a 10 foot chip, let alone any wedge or iron shot from back a ways. UGH!
Gonna check into the Nike as I’m sitting right in the middle of that ‘speed range’.

I’ve played the balls that you’re mentioning and the Vapor Speed does spin more than both of them. But, its still a Ionomer covered 3-piece ball versus a Urethane-covered tour quality ball so temper your expectations a bit. With balls you pretty much get what you pay for.
One more thing – have you switched to wedges that conform to the new groove rule? That might be a factor also.

Might have to try these out, I’ve been a pretty hardcore fan of the original TF Gamer, but the V2′s haven’t been very impressive. Like Cheymike said, having trouble holding the green within 50 yards.
Have you played the AD333′s? If so any idea how they compare to the Vapor Ones?

Hey Dave. I have tried the AD333′s and found them not to spin as much as the Nike Vapor’s. They are also the softest balls I have ever played. Some people like them for that reason but I had a hard time getting used to the feel of them coming off the putter – especially on lag putts. The Vapor’s would fall into the mid range for firmness, which is what I personally prefer.
